Our Ethos
We place great importance on the key person and child relationship and work hard to build and facilitate these relationships through settling in sessions and beyond. We want children to feel part of the Sunshine family and through secure attachments feel confident to explore and lead their own learning. Our staff take the time to get to know their key children and families well, this promotes and develops a strong bond, enabling professional love to grow giving children a sense of emotional wellbeing. By key people getting to know children well they are able to use their knowledge of what children already know and can do to construct a challenging and well thought out curriculum for all.
We strongly believe that children are capable learners who are able to devise their own ideas and take charge of their own learning and development. The adults offer children invitations to learning to support them on their learning journey.
We adopt a child-led approach, where no two days are the same. Adults offer provocations throughout the day and provide support through scaffolding children’s learning and ideas.
How children learn is as important (sometimes more) as what they learn. We aim for children to be secure, resilient, confident learners ready for their next stage of learning (e.g. primary school). We trust children to make their own decisions about their day to day experiences within the nursery. We feel that children learn best when they are supported to lead their own learning, test their own theories and work together with their peers independently.
