Our Nursery
For babies up to 18 months
With a safe and secure ground floor environment the baby unit, aged up to approximately 18 months, offers a warm homely feel where babies are encouraged to explore and develop to stimulate their minds and bodies to become confident in the world around them. From exploring the monochrome area, making and listening to sounds from a range of musical instruments and getting messy with creative play, babies are able to explore their senses from as young as 3 months old to open their minds to a world of imagination.
We aim to follow the routine you and your baby have at home, with the adjacent sleep room offering a calm and relaxed atmosphere. It features soft and soothing music and lullabies to help your baby with a peaceful sleep. The babies benefit from their own dedicated garden space where they can safely explore the outside world.
Through our ParentZone app, you will be provided with regular information on your baby’s sleep, milk and food consumption, nappies and activities for that day.
Ages 18 – 24 months
Our early walkers are now understanding they can get to where they want to be, and are excited by this new sense of independence. Getting messy in shaving foam, rolling cars in sand to see what marks we can make and relaxing in the den with a book, Tiddlers can enjoy making choices of the activities they would like to do.
Parents continue to have access to the ParentZone app which provides you with information on your Tiddlers sleep, food consumption, nappies and activities for that day.
Ages 24 – 30 months
Now confident on their feet, children are eager to explore on a whole new level, from jumping like frogs in puddles and climbing the climbing frame like monkeys, Pre-School 1 enjoy the garden at least twice a day. Indoors, they enjoy singing sessions, role play in the home corner, mark making with a materials and creative equipment as well as playing with a variety of small world toys to help build their imagination
Ages 2.5 years – 3 years
In the Pre-School 1 Unit there is an adjacent bathroom with a dedicated potty area and two low level toilets. We like to work together with parents (along with lots of praise and encouragement) in toilet training their children, we provide pull ups for children that are not quite ready to go completely without a nappy. Outdoor play is essential for children in this room, as well as trips to local parks. Lots of different art and craft activities are on offer, as well as the story corner, role play area and of course plenty of dinosaur-based imaginative play!
Ages 3-5 years
The Pre-School 2 Unit offers children opportunity to explore and promote independence, from putting on their own shoes to learning to do up their coat, children can feel a sense of pride and achievement from their own independence.
Children of this age are full of questions, why does this happen? what happens after? Through providing a wide variety of equipment and resources we can look at each step of their question and explore the answer together. For example, the children were playing in the garden and noticed that a rainbow had appeared and had asked how it had got there? A discussion took place during a group time on how rainbows are formed. The children then designed their own rainbows using paints and collage materials. This then also lead to a discussion on thunder and lightning.
We often visit places of interest to the children, for example we had French week and we took the children to the local library to find some books on France and French words; the children were making their role play area a post office so we enjoyed a trip to our local post office where the children picked up forms, information sheets and had fun guessing which numbers were going to be buzzed next at the counters. We have also enjoyed small walks to use different crossings to show children how to cross the road safely.
Our French teacher comes in weekly, and the children sing songs, learn to count and play games given with instructions in French. Find out more about our French classes at www.bonjourkidz.com
Lucy, our Dance teacher, also comes in weekly. After a warm up session the children get to act out a magical story using dance moves. For example, one recently featured the children pretending to be mermaids, laying on the floor moving their tail, then searching for different treasures in the ocean, hiding from sharks and having an underwater picnic. The end of the session focuses on calm movements and relaxation time to unwind
The Pre-School 2 children have the opportunity to take part in Beach School. Our staff have been trained to help children learn more about their local coastal environment through activities and games, many of which the children invent themselves with encouragement and support from the staff team.
From wearing our pyjamas to dressing as super heroes, we support many charities each year with fun days, and we regularly collect donations for the local food bank.
